About Us

Our Roots

Dedicated in 1922 and in their first building in 1924, the family of Sherman Baptist began with the desire to worship God and build up their community.  Over the 80 plus years that followed, this country congregation has both fulfilled and remains focused on that vision. Settled in the midst of a quickly changing community and challenged with community needs that are growing, Sherman still seeks to worship God and to heal the broken lives in our community.  Anyone attending Sherman for the first time will notice the family atmosphere, the challenge of God's word, the opportunity of salvation in Christ, and the encouragement of new friends.  At Sherman, we are addressing the modern needs of the world with the timeless promises of Jesus.

Our Growth

Today's world is so different from our 1920's ancestors.  From farm life to modern life, people's needs have become more complex and stressful.  Our church family has sought to meet these increasing needs with excellent childcare, superior family counseling and relationship building activities for the whole family.  We try to translate the words of Jesus into actions and preaching that is relevant and powerful.  Youth activities, mission trips, churchwide fellowships and outreach events are offered throughout each year to give every person at Sherman a chance to learn and apply the word of God in their own lives.  Our newly renovated sanctuary gives people a chance to worship God fully and engage with the sermon on both an auditory and visual level.  As we say every Sunday, "Our one desire is that each person present will hear the voice of God speaking to their heart."

Our Challenge

As our community continues to grow and continues to change, our new challenge is even greater.  Our church is looking at needing to expand it's education facility and fellowship area.  Our congregation desires to increase personal involvement in every worship experience.  Our family still holds a burning desire to see broken lives be made whole through Christ.  Our church wants to grow stronger in both worship of God and ministry to our community.
