Mission and Values
Sherman Baptist Vision:
Serving, Believing, and Committed to Christ!
Sherman Baptist Primary Mission:
Evangelize the lost: Our mission is to seek the salvation of the unsaved by fulfilling the Great Commission. It is our goal and duty to bring lost souls to Jesus Christ. Real love for mankind will constrain us to shed the light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ to our brothers and sisters and open our hearts and doors to include them, irrespective of creed, color or any barrier of society (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15-16).
Exalt God through worship: Our mission is to seek to provide an atmosphere where the fulfilled, free and ordered worship of God can be experienced and practiced in one's daily life. It is the mission of SBC to provide an atmosphere conducive for a fulfilled corporate worship experience, which will inspire every believer to engage in a life of healthy and wholesome daily and private worship (Ephesians 5:19-20; Hebrews 10:25, 13:15).
Empower and enhance God's family: To seek to completely support every member of he Body of Christ by perpetuating the Gospel through meaningful missions and ministries that aid the whole man. It is continuously the duty of this church and every member to engage in the support of each other through love, harmony and unity. All missions and ministries of this church are for the aiding of the whole man (mind, body and soul) (1 Thessalonians 5:23, II Corinthians 4:14-15).
It is our goal to become an Acts 2:42-47 church family: therefore we must:
1. Be a sharing community
2. Demonstrate special care for one another
3. Have spiritual comaraderie
4. Sincerely celebrate God in a family environment
Equip God's people for service: To seek the spiritual growth and maturity of every believer through disciplining, teaching, preaching and exhorting from the word of God, as well as creating unique opportunities for service to the Kingdom of God.
It is imperative that we are especially concerned with the proper spiritual growth of our members through discipleship and service. We believe that spiritual growth is impossible without every member being actively engaged in the Kingdom of God's ministry. Every aspect of this church is closely tested by the word of God for its acceptability as a mechanism for spiritual growth and discipleship (Ephesians 4:11-12; Acts 20:28, 32; I Peter 5:2).
Edify the church through prayer: To seek to build up and support every aspect of the church's life and membership through spirit-directed prayer and intercession.
It is the mission of this church to actively intercede through corporate and private prayer on behalf of the total life and effectiveness of Sherman Baptist, its pastor, leadership and members. Since the New Testament was born in prayer (Acts 1:14, 24) and progressed in its growth through prayer (Acts 2:42, 4:24, 31; 6:4), we feel that prayer should be the supreme method through which all of the ministries of the church operate.
